Legacy of Sudarshan Astra

Rig Veda

The Rig Veda describes it as a sharp-rimmed metal discus capable of cutting through anything in its path. That which cuts through anything, removes what stands against you.

Mahabharata describes Sudarshan as the foremost of all discoid weapons, blazing as the sun, capable of immolating vast armies. That which can dissolve armies, can dissolve opposition in your life.

The Vishnu Purana designates Sudarshan Astra as the mind itself of Narayana, whose thoughts fly swifter than the winds. That which moves as thought, acts before resistance, beyond boundaries.

Mahabharata
Vishnu Purana

The Vamana Purana mapped its twelve spokes onto the months of the year, the signs of the zodiac, and the cycle of the seasons, making the Astra a complete cosmological diagram encoded in the form of a discus. That which governs cycles, governs outcomes.

Vamana Purana
Varaha Purana

The Varaha Purana connects it to the Wheel of Time, as the same destructive power that the Sudarshan wielded on the battlefield was the very power that time wields over all created things. That which acts as time, overcomes all that stands in your path.

Pancaratra

The Ahirbudhnya Samhita identifies Sudarshan as Narayana's creative power (kriya-shakti) that creates the universe. That which creates also protects what is created.
